Major Metro Manila Roads Flooded as Habagat Rains Persist

Several major thoroughfares across Metro Manila were submerged in floodwaters on Monday, August 17, 2026, as relentless heavy rainfall brought by the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as habagat, inundated parts of the National Capital Region.

According to flood monitoring reports from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority released at around 3:37 p.m., deep floodwaters affected critical road networks across Manila, Quezon City, Malabon, Taguig, Mandaluyong and Marikina, leaving multiple routes impassable to light vehicles.

In Manila, floodwaters reached up to 24 inches along España Boulevard near M. Dela Fuente Street, while parts of Rizal Avenue, Abad Santos Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, Quirino Avenue and Quezon Boulevard recorded water levels between 17 and 19 inches.

Quezon City saw severe chest-deep to knee-deep flooding, with water levels peaking at 26 inches along the A. Bonifacio Cloverleaf and Araneta Avenue, rendering both thoroughfares completely impassable. Significant flooding of up to 19 inches was also recorded along Amoranto Avenue, Quezon Avenue, EDSA White Plains and sections of Commonwealth Avenue.

In Malabon, water levels rose between 18 and 19 inches along Gov. Pascual Avenue, while F. Sevilla Boulevard, Barangay San Agustin and C. Arellano Street experienced half-knee-deep flooding. Meanwhile, eight-inch floodwaters were reported along Chino Roces Avenue in Taguig, the EDSA-Ortigas southbound service road in Mandaluyong and Marcos Highway beneath SM Marikina in Marikina.

Despite the widespread deluge, traffic authorities noted that several previously submerged corridors, including portions of EDSA Kamuning, East Avenue, Main Avenue, and select areas in Caloocan and Valenzuela, had subsided and were reported clear later in the afternoon. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution, avoid impassable routes and monitor updates as weather authorities expect monsoon rains to persist over the capital region.
