President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. inspected the Zapote River in Las Piñas City on Tuesday morning following weekend flooding triggered by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
Marcos assessed the waterway’s condition to evaluate the extent of the recent flooding and determine necessary interventions to improve water flow and prevent future inundation.
Accompanying the President during the visit were Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III, Congressman Mark Anthony Santos, and Las Piñas City Mayor April Aguilar where they discussed long-term flood management strategies for the area.
As a primary drainage channel for Las Piñas and neighboring communities, keeping the Zapote River clear is critical during periods of heavy rainfall.
The inspection highlights ongoing efforts across government agencies to monitor vulnerable waterways, coordinate with local government units, and strengthen flood mitigation measures throughout Metro Manila.
