PNP Urges Motorcycle Taxi Riders to Use 911 Hotline Amid Recent Attacks

The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged motorcycle taxi riders to maximize the use of the 911 emergency hotline as part of efforts to prevent crimes and ensure faster police response following recent attacks against riders.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the organization is strengthening public awareness on the proper use of the emergency hotline after separate stabbing incidents involving motorcycle taxi riders in Caloocan City and Cavite.

Nartatez said immediate reporting of threats or suspicious incidents could help police respond quickly, prevent crimes, and provide assistance to victims, in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive, through the guidance of DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, to enhance crime prevention measures nationwide.

“We are working tirelessly with ride-hailing platforms to secure our streets, and we urge the public to be our partners,” Nartatez said.

“Motorcycle taxi riders should not hesitate to call 911 at the first sign of danger. If they feel threatened, are being followed, or encounter suspicious behavior, contacting 911 immediately allows the PNP to coordinate the fastest possible police response and provide assistance before the situation escalates,” he added.

The PNP issued the reminder after the deaths of motorcycle taxi riders in separate stabbing incidents in Caloocan City and Cavite. Authorities have already arrested suspects linked to both cases.

Nartatez assured motorcycle taxi riders that the PNP is strengthening coordination with ride-hailing companies and local police units to improve safety measures.

“We understand the fear and concern these incidents have caused among our motorcycle taxi riders,” he said.

“The PNP is strengthening coordination with ride-hailing companies and local police units to enhance preventive measures, increase police visibility in high-risk areas, and ensure that those who prey on hardworking Filipinos are swiftly brought to justice,” he added.

The PNP chief also directed police units nationwide to conduct information campaigns promoting the proper use of the 911 emergency hotline and encouraging the public to immediately report threats or emergencies.
