Authorities Torch ₱20-M Marijuana Crop in Cordillera Mountains

Authorities destroyed more than 100,000 fully grown marijuana plants worth an estimated P20 million along the mountainous border of Sadanga, Mountain Province, and Tinglayan, Kalinga, on July 12.

The operation was conducted by personnel from the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s provincial office.

Police units involved included the Sadanga Municipal Police Station, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, Provincial Intelligence Unit, 1st and 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Companies, and Community Affairs and Development Unit.

Authorities uprooted and destroyed the plants at the site as part of continuing efforts to curb the illegal cultivation and distribution of marijuana.

PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the operating units for carrying out the operation in the remote and mountainous area.

“Ang laban kontra ilegal na droga ay hindi lang tungkol sa pagsira ng mga taniman o paghuli sa mga sangkot dito. Mas mahalaga, pinoprotektahan natin ang ating mga komunidad at ang kinabukasan ng ating mga kabataan. Tuloy-tuloy ang ating operasyon kasama ang ating mga katuwang na ahensya upang matiyak na walang lugar ang ilegal na droga sa ating mga pamayanan,” Nartatez said.

He said the PNP would continue conducting intelligence-driven operations with partner agencies and local communities to address illegal drug activities.

The police said the operation formed part of its intensified anti-illegal drug campaign and broader efforts to protect communities from threats to public safety.
