MMDA Keeps 24/7 Watch as Habagat Rains Persist

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority maintained round-the-clock monitoring and emergency preparedness operations on Saturday as Typhoon Inday, internationally known as Bavi, was expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility while the enhanced southwest monsoon continued to bring rains over parts of Luzon.

The MMDA sustained its weather monitoring following the activation of its Emergency Operations Center at 7 a.m. on Friday upon the directive of MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes.

The agency said the activation was intended to ensure a coordinated response to weather-related incidents across Metro Manila.

Rescue teams and emergency response assets remained on standby for immediate deployment to areas that could be affected by flooding, road emergencies, and other incidents caused by the southwest monsoon intensified by Typhoon Inday.

The MMDA also continued its 24-hour surveillance through the Communications and Command Center, closely monitoring major roads and flood-prone areas across the National Capital Region.

The agency said the continuous monitoring would help accelerate emergency response, improve traffic management, and minimize disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions.

Authorities advised the public to remain vigilant, monitor official weather bulletins, and cooperate with emergency personnel as measures to ensure public safety remain in place.
