More Filipino Families Turning To Unified 911 For Emergency Help—DILG

The Department of the Interior and Local Government said more Filipino families are turning to the Unified 911 hotline during emergencies as public awareness of the service continues to grow.

According to the DILG, the increased use of Unified 911 has helped emergency responders coordinate faster, reach people in need sooner, and improve families’ chances of survival when every second matters.

The department stressed that in many emergencies, the first person who can help save a life is often a family member who stays calm and immediately calls for help.

A single call to 911 allows emergency operators to assess the situation, dispatch the appropriate responders, and coordinate critical assistance, the DILG said.

In Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, an 88-year-old grandmother suffered a serious fall inside her home. Her grandchild immediately called Unified 911, and emergency responders arrived within five minutes to assess her condition and provide urgent medical assistance.

In Caloocan City, a daughter called Unified 911 after seeing her father suddenly collapse and show signs of a stroke. An ambulance arrived three minutes later and brought him to a medical facility for immediate treatment.

In Quezon City, a mother sought help after her son suffered a severe asthma attack. Through the swift coordination of the Unified 911 National Call Center, the local government unit, and emergency medical responders, the child was immediately transported to the nearest hospital.

The DILG said the cases show how one call can activate the emergency response system and make the difference between tragedy and survival.

The department urged Filipino families to include Unified 911 in their household emergency preparedness plans, saying timely reporting and clear communication allow responders to act quickly when lives are at risk.

“Hinihikayat namin ang bawat pamilyang Pilipino na isaisip at isapuso ang pagtawag sa 911 sa oras ng sakuna. Mahalaga ang maagap ninyong aksiyon para maligtas ang inyong mga kapamilya,” the DILG said.
