Days after a fire hit Eastwood Olympic Heights Tower 3 in Quezon City on June 18, 2026, a family affected by the incident is calling for transparency and accountability from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), saying the reported impact of the blaze does not fully reflect what residents experienced.
The Neri family, who survived the fire, said several residents suffered serious health complications after inhaling thick smoke that spread through the condominium building.
According to the family, four of their relatives remain confined in intensive care units, while other affected residents are reportedly being treated in different hospitals.
Survivors described scenes of fear and desperation as they waited to be rescued. Some residents, they said, struggled to breathe as black smoke filled portions of the building, while oxygen support during the rescue was allegedly limited.
For many victims, the ordeal continued even after they escaped. Several residents were displaced, lost personal belongings and now face mounting medical expenses as they try to recover from the incident.
The family said they want authorities to clarify the actual number of injured residents, the extent of the damage and whether the emergency response was sufficient.
Efforts were made to seek comment from the Public Information Office of the BFP-National Capital Region, through Fire Officer Teresa May Pinawin, regarding the concerns raised by the victims.
As of posting, however, no official statement or response had been issued.
While waiting for an explanation from authorities, affected residents said they continue to seek assistance, transparency and accountability over the June 18 fire.
