KG9, Five Other Firearms Seized in Southern Leyte Anti-Gun Ops

Authorities confiscated six alleged unlicensed firearms, including a KG9 submachine gun fitted with a silencer, during a police operation in Maasin City, Southern Leyte, as part of the government’s continuing campaign against loose firearms.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said the operation was carried out on June 16 in Barangay Batuan through the implementation of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Recovered during the raid were one KG9 light weapon with silencer, three 9mm pistols, one .45-caliber pistol, one .22-caliber pistol, along with assorted magazines and ammunition.

Police also arrested the subject of the search warrant, identified only as “Dong,” a tricycle driver of legal age, who was allegedly found in possession of the firearms without the required License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF).

Investigators further said the suspect was allegedly engaged in gunsmithing activities without authorization from the Philippine National Police Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO).

The operation was led by the CIDG Southern Leyte Provincial Field Unit in coordination with the Provincial Mobile Force Company and local police units.

CIDG officials said the seizure underscores ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms from circulation and prevent their use in criminal activities.

Authorities reiterated that enforcement operations under Oplan Paglalansag Omega will continue nationwide as part of the intensified drive against loose firearms and armed criminality.
