3 Suspects Surrender in the GenSan Buried Body Case

Three suspects have voluntarily surrendered to authorities following a breakthrough in the investigation of a cadaver case in General Santos City, the Philippine National Police said.

The PNP said the suspects turned themselves in on June 28, 2026, after police identified them in connection with the case and launched operations to locate them.

The investigation began on June 26, when the victim’s family reported his disappearance to the General Santos City Police Office. The following day, responding police officers recovered the victim’s buried body in a barangay in General Santos City, prompting authorities to intensify their probe.

Police said the suspects surrendered one after another to the police station with the help of their respective families and barangay officials, just hours after authorities announced that they had already been identified.

The suspects are now in police custody. Authorities said they were properly documented, informed of their constitutional rights, and placed under custodial investigation.

Investigators are completing the evidence, establishing the motive behind the crime, determining the participation of each suspect, and preparing the appropriate criminal charges.

The PNP said the swift progress of the case reflects its continuing efforts under its Focused Agenda, particularly on Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which seeks to strengthen investigative capabilities, improve case resolution, and ensure that crimes are addressed promptly and professionally.

The police organization said the development also supports the peace and public safety priorities of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the operating units for their focused investigation and close coordination with the community.

“Hindi natin titigilan ang anumang kaso hangga’t hindi natin nalalapit sa hustisya ang mga biktima. Ang mabilis na pag-usad ng kasong ito ay bunga ng masusing imbestigasyon, maayos na koordinasyon, at pagtutulungan ng pulisya at komunidad. Patuloy nating gagawin ang ating tungkulin nang may integridad, respeto sa karapatan ng bawat isa, at buong dedikasyon sa serbisyo,” PGen Nartatez said.

Nartatez also stressed that every investigation must remain evidence-based and conducted with full respect for due process to ensure accountability and preserve public trust.
