The Philippine National Police (PNP) demonstrated that a police officer’s duty does not end when off duty after an incident of gunfire in Tramo Uno, Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque on the night of June 5, 2026.

According to reports, the incident began when a man allegedly harmed a resident’s dog. When confronted, the suspect drew a firearm and shot at the resident, who survived. The suspect fled through the neighborhood, causing panic.

Nearby, Police MSgt. Lenard Solla Quindo, 42 years old, who was off duty at that time, immediately responded. Rather than avoid the scene, he pursued the suspect and identified himself as a police officer. The suspect fired again, resulting in a brief exchange of gunfire.

An 18-year-old student was hit during the incident and was rushed to a hospital, where he is now in stable condition. Quindo managed to fire in self-defense before the suspect escaped into a dark area.

Authorities launched an immediate investigation and follow-up operations. A manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the suspect, and ballistic evidence has been collected from the scene.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the officer’s bravery, saying, “The courage and swift response of our off-duty officer show that the service of the PNP never sleeps. We will continue to intensify operations to hold the perpetrator accountable and ensure community safety.”

Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) remains active in tracking the suspect and mitigating further threats. The PNP reaffirmed its commitment to public service under its motto: “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”
