The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) continues its efforts to prevent flooding through regular drainage declogging operations across the National Capital Region.
According to the MMDA, its Flood Control team collected a total of three cubic meters of garbage and silt during cleanup operations conducted on Thursday in several areas of Metro Manila to ensure the unhampered flow of water in drainage systems.
In Paco, Manila, workers removed 0.5 cubic meter of waste from a 50-linear-meter drainage line along Angel Linao Street. Another 0.5 cubic meter of debris was collected from drainage laterals along A.H. Lacson Avenue in Sampaloc, Manila.
The team also extracted 0.5 cubic meters of waste from drainage laterals and catch basins along A. Mendoza Street in Sta. Cruz, Manila. In San Miguel, Manila, an additional 0.5 cubic meter of garbage and silt was removed through declogging and hauling operations.
Meanwhile, the largest volume of waste collected during the day’s operations came from Mindanao Avenue Extension in Valenzuela City, where workers cleared one cubic meter of debris from a 35-linear-meter drainage line.
The MMDA reminded the public to practice proper waste disposal and avoid throwing garbage into waterways and drainage systems to prevent recurring blockages that could contribute to flooding, especially during the rainy season.
