Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a cyberlibel case.
Initial information showed that Singson was apprehended by personnel of the Quezon City Police District inside a subdivision in Barangay Ugong Norte, Quezon City.
Police served the warrant of arrest issued by the court.
Authorities have yet to release further details on the case, including the specific allegations against Singson and the identity of the complainant.
It was also not immediately clear whether Singson had posted bail or remained under police custody while legal procedures were being completed.
Officials said they were still awaiting a statement from Singson or his camp regarding the arrest.
