Marcos Reaffirms Stronger Protection, Support for OFWs

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthen and sustain programs that respond to the needs of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), while ensuring their protection and welfare both in the Philippines and abroad.

In a video message during the OFW Global Summit, which also marked the 31st National Migrant Workers’ Day, Marcos recognized the sacrifices and contributions of Filipinos working and living overseas, not only for their families but also for the country.

The President said OFWs continue to reflect the best qualities of Filipinos, describing them as hardworking, reliable, caring, and resilient in the face of challenges.

In return, Marcos said the government, through the Department of Migrant Workers, would continue to enhance programs that are meant to serve and support OFWs and their families.

“Bilang inyong pamahalaan, muli naming pinagtitibay ang aming pangarap na ipaglaban ang inyong mga karapatan, pangalagaan ang inyong mga kapakanan, at palawakin ang suporta para sa inyo at sa inyong pamilya (As your government, we reaffirm our dream of fighting for your rights, protecting your welfare, and expanding support for you and your family),” he said.

“Tinitiyak natin na may maaasahan kayong tulong kapag kailangan, may sapat na proteksyon habang kayo’y nasa ibang bansa, at may malinaw na oportunidad sa inyong pagbabalik at muling pagsisimula dito sa Pilipinas (We ensure that you have reliable help when needed, adequate protection while you are abroad, and clear opportunities for your return and a fresh start here in the Philippines),” he added.

The OFW Global Summit, spearheaded by the DMW and the Quezon City Government, also kicked off Migrant Workers’ Month. The event aims to empower OFWs as investors, entrepreneurs and key contributors to nation-building.
