In a hypothetical 2028 presidential race, it was seen that Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Erwin Tulfo will emerge as leaders for the presidential and vice presidential preference survey, respectively, a Pulse Asia poll commissioned by Stratbase Group showed.
The survey, conducted from May 3 to 7 among 1,500 respondents nationwide, showed Duterte leading former vice president Leni Robredo by 10 percentage points in a two-way presidential matchup.
Duterte received 51 percent voter preference, while Robredo posted 41 percent. The remaining eight percent of respondents were undecided or declined to answer.
For vice president, Tulfo led the field, with five in 10 Filipinos saying they would vote for him in the 2028 elections.
Duterte drew her strongest support from Mindanao, where 91 percent of respondents chose her over Robredo, who received seven percent in the region.
The two were statistically close in Metro Manila, with Duterte getting 48 percent and Robredo receiving 46 percent.
Robredo, however, led in Balance Luzon, or areas outside Metro Manila, where she obtained 55 percent support against Duterte’s 33 percent.
Stratbase Group president Victor Andres “Dindo” Manhit said Duterte’s strong showing in Mindanao was expected. He said Robredo could narrow the gap if she decides to run by expanding her reach in Mindanao and consolidating support among undecided voters.
Manhit also said it would be difficult for any presidential contender to sustain support as high as 91 percent in one region throughout a full national campaign.
