Outstanding graduating students from higher education institutions across the country were honored for leadership, academic excellence, and service, with this year’s recognition placing a stronger focus on the role of young Filipinos in community-building and national development.

The awardees from Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University, Cebu Normal University, and Marinduque State University were recognized under the Mark Villar Leadership Award, which honors student leaders who excelled not only in academics but also in service to their school communities.

The recognition highlighted the discipline, perseverance, and resilience of the Class of 2026, many of whom completed their college years while navigating academic, financial, and personal challenges.

“Natutuwa tayo na sa kabila ng mga pagsubok at sakripisyong inyong pinagdaanan, nagtagumpay kayong maabot ang mahalagang yugto na ito sa inyong buhay,” Sen. Mark Villar said during the awarding ceremony.

“Kahanga-hanga ang inyong sipag, tiyaga, dedikasyon, at pagsusumikap na nagsisilbing inspirasyon sa kapwa ninyo kabataan,” he added.

Beyond honoring individual achievement, the award underscored the growing need for young leaders who can bring innovation, compassion, and social responsibility into their workplaces and communities.

The graduates were encouraged to use their education not only to pursue personal success, but also to help address the needs of fellow Filipinos.

“As you move forward to the next chapter of your lives, I hope that you continue to use your knowledge, skills, and talents not only for your own success, but also in service of your communities and fellow Filipinos,” Villar said.

The recognition also served as a reminder that leadership begins early, from campus organizations and student councils to volunteer work, academic initiatives, and community programs.

“Malaki ang maitutulong ng inyong bagong henerasyon sa paghubog ng mas maunlad at mas matatag na bansa,” Villar said.

Parents, professors, mentors, and loved ones were also acknowledged for guiding the students through their academic journey and helping shape their values as future professionals and civic leaders.

“Congratulations to the graduates and student leaders of Batch 2026, together with your proud parents, professors, and mentors. May you make a mark through your leadership, compassion, and commitment to serving the Filipino people,” Villar said.

The awardees were urged to carry forward the values of service, integrity, and excellence as they enter the workforce, with the recognition framing their graduation not only as a personal milestone but as the beginning of a larger responsibility to their communities.
