55,000 Police, Support Personnel to Secure School Opening

Around 55,000 police personnel and force multipliers will be deployed nationwide to secure the opening of classes on June 8, the Philippine National Police said Monday.

PNP Director for Operations Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. said the deployment will include police officers and force multipliers, including personnel from local government units.

“We’re seeing not less than 55,000 personnel will be deployed nationwide, including force multipliers,” Peñones said at a press briefing in Camp Crame.

Peñones said there is no need to raise the PNP’s alert status for the class opening, noting that school security deployment is part of the police force’s regular operations.

He said the security template for the opening of classes is already in place.

“As the program director, I already directed the different regional offices and regional directors to strictly monitor and implement their deployment plan as far as Balik Eskwela is concerned,” Peñones said.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police visibility will be increased near schools and along routes commonly used by students.

“We need to increase our visibility, our deployment, especially near the schools and routes going to the schools,” Nartatez said.

He said securing the class opening will also require coordination with school officials, local government units, and other law enforcement agencies.

“We need the help of school officials, the LGUs, and other agencies enforcing the law as well to ensure peace and order in these areas,” Nartatez said.

In Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office said 4,402 police personnel will be deployed for the school opening.

“Commuters, parents, and students can expect a heavy police presence at school zones, transport hubs, and major thoroughfares starting this week,” the NCRPO said in a statement.

The NCRPO said it will coordinate with school administrators, LGU officials, and transport groups to ensure public safety.

“Every student deserves to begin the school year in a safe environment,” NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said.

“Through Oplan Balik Eskwela 2026, the NCRPO stands ready to protect and respond, ensuring our schools remain secure spaces for learning,” he added.

The NCRPO urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities or through the 911 emergency hotline.
