Five persons under police custody (PUPCs) died, while another remains in critical condition after a Quezon City Police District (QCPD) mobile patrol vehicle crashed along Payatas Road on Friday, April 24.
In a statement, QCPD said the vehicle was transporting four police officers and six PUPCs to the Quezon City Jail–Payatas Facility for formal commitment when the accident occurred.
All passengers were rushed to Rosario Maclang General Hospital, where five detainees were declared dead on arrival. Another remains in critical condition, while the four police personnel sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment.
QCPD Director Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio has ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the cause of the crash, including any possible lapses or liabilities.
Authorities said coordination is ongoing with traffic and medical agencies as part of the probe. The police district is also working with the Quezon City local government to provide assistance to the victims’ families, including funeral and burial support.
“The QCPD extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased,” Silvio said, assuring the public that the investigation will be transparent and updates will be released as more details emerge.
He also reiterated the police force’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of both its personnel and individuals under custody.
